Wood Ducks

I have wanted to see Wood Ducks for as long as I can remember. And recently, it happened! They were very far away on a small pond. This is why some of the pictures are blurry. They look like a person painted them, but God painted them.

There is one sitting up in the tangle of tree branches.
See how well their pattern blends in to hide them?

I remember vividly the first time I saw these beautiful birds. at Jungle gardens, they were floating in the ponds and I said to Diane, the bird person I was with , What is that? i thought then and now they are stunning with that paint job. i told her they need a better name than wood duck

Congratulation on your first sighting of the wood ducks. They are beautifully painted by God.

My husband used to carve these ducks, and his work is beautiful. ~smile~

You photos are gorgeous!

Re: Your comment on my blog... About the book I pictured "Botanical Folk Tales of Britain and Ireland"... I do not have it, but since you ordered it... I looked it up. It does sound delightful. I love books, which tell, according to the seasons, and this one does.

I love Celtic Tales. Maybe since I am 1/4 Irish and 1/4 Scottish. And I love tales, which bring in the Fey.

But remember, the Fey of the Celts, were not the pretty little Flower Faeries, of present day illustrations. Nope! Nope! Nope! You can never totally trust the Fey! ~smile~

Just telling you, ahead of time. ~smile~

Oh... and.... I ordered the book too!!!!!!!!!!! ~grin~

Ginny,
This post made me smile. I have always wanted to see a Wood-duck as well. This spring during one of our walks I got to see one. I was so excited. We were driving to a campground to walk during the shutdown. No one was allowed to camp, so it was peaceful and it was just us walking. It was a thrill to see my first wood-duck in the wild.
Thank you for the post. They are my favorite ducks.
Love, Carla

Isn't it wonderful when something you always wanted to find and see and then it happens? Not my best English, but you know what I mean. And I understand why you wanted to see them, they are truly beautiful.
