We watched a David Attenborough show this evening that had a segment on Fireflies. My camera did not capture how beautiful some of it was. The spots of light in the photos are actually fireflies.
Fireflies are not really bugs, they are a beetle. And there are thousands of different kinds! Each one that flashes has their own flashing code. And there are yellow, green, and orange flashers!

How pretty those pictures are. Fireflies make me think of simpler days when we would run around in the back yard trying to catch the fireflies.
Dud you read Where the Crawdads Sing? In it it talks about fireflies. And the flashing codes, etc. I meant to.look it up and see if it was so.
I have not seen fireflies since I was a child, now I wonder if we have them here in FL or if it is so bright with lights we can't see them. the photos are great, so beautiful
Beautiful capture of the fireflies. I have seen fireflies when I was a kid. That was so very long time ago.
Love fireflies!
WOW! I has no idea of all those facts about fireflies, Ginny. I thought there was only one kind. How fascinating!!! Gorgeous pictures too. ~Andrea xoxo
These are wonderful photos of the fireflies, Ginny. I always wanted to see the fireflies, as Nel told me that she saw them every night in her back yard when she lived in Georgia, and then one night, when I lived in So Cal, I was on the back porch, and I saw TWO of them! It was amazing to see, and Yes, they do light up! That show you watched must have been so interesting.
Thank you for the light you share on your blog, Ginny, just like the firefly. : )

This brings back memories of childhood summer joys of playing with friends in our neighborhood after dark, catching "lightening bugs and dancing in the fog from the mosquito control truck. It is amazing that we survived. When our mom's called, we went in for cooling baths and bedtime.
Fascinating, had no idea they had different colored flashes. What a wonderful photo capturing the lights. As a kid we had such fun trying to capture them in jars. Now, there aren't many.
WOW.. we soon will have the lighting bug dancing in our garden at night. I love it when they start.

We call them lightning bugs. :) Used to catch them and put them in jars when we were kids. Then we'd let them go before we went inside.
Haven't seen any yet this year but they will be around.
We get fireflies in our yard in the summer. They are so cool! These pictures are so pretty!
They are just so magical! I once stood with my children at the edge of a field where there were thousands of them dancing! It was unforgettable. We used to wear them as rings when we were kids but that sounds so mean now. xoxo
