The Pond

After passing the Big Cow, we were so close to the pond that we went there as well. Because of our draught, it was basically a dried-up mudhole. And it was over 90! So most of the cows had gone into what was left of the water to cool off. Thus scaring away most of the shorebirds.

We did spot a bird taking a cooling bath.

And a Killdeer.

Also a baby Starling. You can tell he's a juvenile because of his spotted breast.

And there was at least a LEAST Sandpiper!

One last look as we head home.

“And from Humming-Bird to Eagle, the daily existence of every bird is a remote and bewitching mystery.“

~Thomas Wentworth Higginson

“I value my garden more for being full of blackbirds than cherries, and very frankly give them fruit for their songs.”

~Joseph Addison, 1712

Awesome photos Ginny! Beautifully settings and interesting birds. Cows are cute animals, always so curious. Great quotes too!

Those cows have the right idea for cooling off. Glad they didn't scare off all the birds. You got some good pictures of them.

what a gorgeous and peaceful pastoral view and it doesn't look like a drought at all, just like here. the cows make me feel sad for them, the birds are probably flocking there for water and you found a lot of different types. Lets hope our work can come back from this flood/drought and all in between. Our food supply is dwindling

Love the pastoral scene and the birds that are joining the cows cooling off. You really live in a lovely part of the country.

I did not know you had a drought - it has been one heck of a hot summer here too.

I think Killdeer are fun to watch. :-) We had a pair nest along the area we walk.

I bet those cows loved grazing in the field and then heading over to the pond on that hot day. Such precious birds you saw at the pond, and I especially like that one with its reflection in the water. What a great picture that is.

Have a good week, Ginny. It's in the 80's here, and it's supposed to be in the 80's the next couple of weeks.

I deleted my first comment because I posted it on the wrong posted. Apols. I've moved it. As to this post, I love your pictures but especially the one of the sandpiper reflected in the water he's standing in. xoxo
