The other day, a zillion starlings were swirling through the air, settling down on fields, then back up, making patterns in the sky. This is called murmuration.
They loved the barns, because of the big fields.
Other barns we passed on the way home.
Plus a lot of teeny tiny storage barns!

Mozart had
a pet Starling, probably the most famous of this amazing species in captivity.
He was incredibly fond of his bird, and even wrote a eulogy for the Starling
when it died. He also noted, in his journal, an instance of the bird
“re-writing” a portion of one of his musical pieces. He described a section of
Piano Concerto No. 17 in G. He recorded the modification the bird had sung and
wrote, “That was fine!”

Wow, that sure is a lot of starlings. It would be fascinating to watch them all like that.
seeing this with your own eyes had to be mesmerizing and awe inspiring. I have never seen starlings like this, but once we saw black birds in waves and waves and they kept coming and coming and coming. we were sitting in the back yard and it was at least 3 to 5 minutes of it.. found out later from the newspaper,they were headed to an island not far from us, that they do that at dusk, go there to roost for the night. birds in flight, awesome as is that last photo. wow

I have seen murmurations over the rice fields in the Sacramento Valley. Its amazing and really musical to watch. Thanks for sharing and I do love old barns.

Wow, that is amazing. So many birds! I didn't know that they made patterns in the sky like this. I don't see the Starlings up here in the mountains. I'll have to check them out to see what they look like. Interesting post, Ginny, and I learned something today. ; )
