I Can't Quite Put My Finger On It

I do not paint my nails, and only take a notion to every five years or so. But yesterday I passed a bottle of yellow nail polish in the drugstore, and since I have been feeling down all week, I snapped it up. I would paint my nails yellow. It would be like having a little sunbeam on each finger tip! How cheerful, I would be a hip grandma! I painted them last night and was very pleased with the results. I started feeling more upbeat. Today when Phil saw them, he was a little less than horrified. He wanted to know why I would paint my nails yellow. I told him that I needed some cheering up and it was easier than dyeing my hair. Then I made the mistake of asking him how he liked it. Here is what he said: "It looks a bit reptilian...you look like a lizard." A lizard??!! He went on to explain. It seems that lizards may have yellow eyes...not quite sure..it just reminds him of lizards. So now when I look at my fingers, I will not be seeing little sunbeams at all. Just call me Godzilla. What makes you feel better when you have the blues, and has it ever backfired? In a lovely coincidence, my blogging friend Ruth has also just done a post on nail polish, and it is much sweeter than mine. You can check it out HERE.

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 7:9,12

I'm sorry you've been down Ginny- really am! Typical response though (lol)..I think your nails are pretty..but hey, I've done blue..not sure if either would be considered sensible? Like you, I don't do them often- but it can do the trick! This lady who cut my hair once, told me plenty of women would get there hair done when they were feeling blue too. I'm doing my hair this week actually..as soon as my energy picks up!!(smile) I seriously hope and will pray for you! Your a great blogging friend and such an inspiration -I'm truly grateful our paths crossed!

Oh, Ginny! That's a riot. Hubs doesn't know it but he gave you a lefthanded compliment. Godzilla is strong and powerful and beats Mothra and always comes back over and over again. Children love him. Why else would they keep making movies about him. LOL You wear those yellow nails with pride. Godzilla had fire in his eyes and now so do you. Wheeee.

FROM A MAN'S PERSPECTIVE: So sorry we men say things like that. It reminded me of the too many times I've said similar things about something Frances has done with her hair, or nails, or a new dress, etc - and my comment un-intentionally hurt her feelings. But then I read in the Bible, in James 3:2 "For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body." So, girls, please forgive us for saying We love you just the way God made you.

Good morning Ginny - I am sorry that you have been feeling down and hope that today brings happiness to you. I have done the typical red polish as well as blue. Now, I find that I am just not into polish all that much anymore. However, I think that your nails look swell. Do you like it? If so, that is all that matters,

Jane

Typical man. That is kind of like the lady that went to the beauty shop and when she gets home she says "Honey, I just got back from the beauty shop" and he looks up and says "It's too bad that it was closed". :)

I don't paint my nails either but I sure enjoy seeing the young folks with their brightly colored nails and intricate designs available these days.
Wishing you happier days ~ may God bless you this weekend Ginny. I am blessed to have met you thru blogging.

If your look is reptilian, then it is a sassy reptile!! A sunny, sassy reptile!

I'm sorry you are feeling down and hope you bounce back to yourself very soon. I'm sending sunny, joyful healing thoughts and prayers your way.

Best,
Bonnie

I hope your spirits are better this morning, Ginny. If it helps at all, last summer I painted my toe nails an uncharacteristic fire engine red. The only problem was I couldn't get it off. I couldn't find a remover that worked. Time and sandpaper finally did the trick. I've since moved to a slightly more expensive polish :-). As to your fella - he obviously speaks the truth as he sees it. He meant no offense. Have a great day, Ginny. Blessings...Mary

Yesterday I read Ruth's sweet story and today I read yours on the same topic! That's cool! I have a sneaking feeling that you were not hurt by your hubby's attempt at sense of humor! You strike me as having joined him in the laughter! He would love you anyhow even if the nail polish was permanent!

Whenever I've painted my nails, I've had this bad habit - I just picked at it all day until it was all off. So then I painted my toenails, especially for the summer. Well, that caused nail issues I had to treat that are finally almost healed. So, now I go without and that's ok.

I grew up not being allowed to wear lipstick, color nails, earrings, perm or color hair, etc. etc. etc. My father always had a different word than your hubby's, for the women who wore garish make-up and nails, lol! When our daughter started wearing earrings, however, it was he who told her to make sure they were real gold or silver or else they could cause infection. Interesting, eh!

Hope you are feeling much improved and trust you will have a blessed week-end!

Shame on that Phil... You need to take his flying saucer away from him--and hide it in a closet!!!!! ha ha

I used to get my nails done (acrilic with polish) every 3 weeks or so--when I was working fulltime...That was something I did for me --since I used to bite my fingernails..YUK!!!

Anyhow---I no longer get my nails painted--but I don't bite them any more either --thank goodness...

To make me smile on a droopy day, I will sit and watch my sweet little birdies coming and going at the feeder...

Hope today is a good day for you.
Hugs,
Betsy

When all the beautiful ranbow of nail polish colors started coming out, I had a cupboard full of them. I even painted little scenes on my toenails!
Isn't it wonderful that a bit of yellow can cheer you up? My favorite was a blue-green color. Maybe that would make you like a tropical bird and Phil wouldn't see lizards.
Hope the cheer was more than temporary.

Dear Ginny,

Well I'm trying to figure out what it means to "follow" a blog. I think I'm following you, now which I guess doesn't mean "looking at your blog whenever I think of it," but something else.

Anyway I do always enjoy your posts and your wonderful pictures!

By the way, "Two of us" is a joint production, which is why I didn't see your comment there for so long. I'm working on a blog of my own but it's not quite there yet.

Cheers,

Marnie

Ginny, your nails look very festive :-) They look a lot better than my 13 year old granddaughters black nails!

ok, since Phil was truthful, i will say what my first thought was at the first photo. witches nails, YIKES. are these Ginny's nails? why would she do that? are they real or stick on, or the kind you pay a fortune for. i was pleased to find it is only nail polish and can be wiped off with a cotton ball. i have to say i have never done anything to my body while feeling blue, when i get blue i get a good book and depart my life for a few hours. live in another world. once when youngest son was 12, i bought what i thought was a beautiful dress for church. at that time we wore NO PANTS in God's house. when i came out, he said "mom, are you wearing that outside?" i wore it that day and never put it on again.
then when daddy was in the nursing home, i went there with a denin shirt and denin wide bottom jeans, he said "they let you come here in your pajamas"

I'm sorry you've been so down too...
I love the yellow nail polish! It reminds me of sun flowers...

A coworker of mine used to tell me when she was feeling down she'd paint her nails fire engine red! I say paint your toes too!

I just want to know if Phil is out of the doghouse yet! I hate to fracture male solidarity, but I rather like your yellow fingernail polish!

Well I like your nail AND your reason they cheered you up.... reminding you of Sunshine... I love it!!

Men... they just don't seen things the way woman do. & I doubt anything makes them think of sunshine outside of the real thing. :-) So don't let his comment bring you back down. I'm sorry you've been down, but very glad that you perked yourself up... at leat for a while. :-)

Hang in there, we all have our up and down weeks. I was really down 3 weeks ago when my oldest son moved to Houston. First time both older boys have been gone at the same time... ever! Aww.... seeing them grow up and living their own lives always gives us mixed emotions and lots of those emotions.

Hope you're having a nice weekend!
Hugs,
Coreen

Been having a down kind of week myself but I don't think I've ever been in a mood where I thought yellow nail polish would help. I very rarely paint my finger nails. I do paint my toe nails though, especially in summer. But I keep to pearly pinkish kind of colours. The most daring I've ever gone is reddish brown I think... Yellow, green, blue, black... Not colours I'd choose for nails unless for theatrical effect. I think I actually kind of agree with your Phil there. Something 'nonhuman' about it... But hey. If it cheers you up...

I have been known to do unnecessary shopping under the "blues" influence. Like clothes a bit out of my usual style, which I then of course end up never finding the right occasion to wear. That's really just a variety of the same syndrome as getting your hair or your nails done, I suppose!

the rule is when you do anything unuual, do you really want to ask the husband"what do you think"? a few months ago, while visiting my grandchild, I added red tone to my hair. When i came home I never said anything. He never said anything. A month later, had a hair cut app. Husband said"good, you need your hair even between the red and brown". I wasn't upset, I always knew he noticed my hair but didn't say anything, so no hurt feelings, and so what I did what I wanted. Rose

That pretty yellow should lift your spirits, I love it. Phil sounds like my hubby, guys don't understand nail polish and new earrings, etc. I don't do my nails much in the summer because yard work is a little rough on them. In the winter I do them often. They have been green, blue, silver (Christmas) and gold. I have a bottle of yellow I haven't tried yet.
