For The Beauty Of The Earth

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.
Folliott S. Pierpont

All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.

Today is Earth Day! And my first four pictures are artwork made by school kids. I find their images of earth both fragile and strong.

“God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth." God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God's nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth."
Genesis 1

What a wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day Ginny, I love this post. The artwork by the students is great. I would have thought the fourth one was by some famous artist.

Happy Earth Day!

Fun! Pierce has my old globe from the 80s when I was a kid. We actually use it frequently, to look up places in books we read.

Ginny, the globe as bowl is fabulous, love it!
Mt. Pilot...remember Andy Griffith of Mayberry? Remember he'd always talk about going to Mt. Pilot? Well, Pilot Mountain is very real and what Andy called Mt. Pilot. It's in NC, just off Rt. 77. Click on the name under the photo and it will take you to the town.

Ginny, the kids' art is wonderful! Such creative minds!

You asked how I was able to photograph the mockingbird on the tractor steering wheel. This year the mockingbirds seem not to mind that we are nearby. Yesterday I enjoyed the warm sunshine and the antics of the mockingbirds, who were trying to build a nest under the tractor seat! Of course, that couldn't be, so my husband moved their twigs - and they quickly found another spot! Seems that they are attracted to the red!

I was able to capture the turtles on the log with my new long lens - then cropped it to bring it even closer.

Ginny,
Belated Earth Day. Wonderful, creative art projects. Canvass with the tree really speaks to me as I have taken pictures similiar of the very large, very old oaks all around us here. You describe it perfectly, a blend of "fragil and strong" in the total effect of the projects. Like life. Blessings.
