"When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly." 1 Peter 2:23
What are your thoughts on the new Health Care Plan that is being passed into law? Whatever side you are on, you will still remain my blogging friends! See Majority Leader Steny Hoyer in the first picture, giving a press conference today. Why is he looking so serious and sad? He is telling the media that members of congress who supported the new health care plan have been recieving threats, even death threats. One has had a brick thrown through her office window. Va. Congressman Tom Perreillo's brother had his gas line severed. The vandal thought it was the congressman's house, but accidentally got his brother's, instead. These people are so mad and agitated that they're even messing up their own plans of vengence. Some congressional members have even gotten threats in person! This is just amazing to me. Have these people all gone mad? Democracy is all about having passionate debates and stating your beliefs without fear of being hurt. It's about fair voting, and the most votes win. We may not like the outcome, but the majority rules. Better luck next time. Now the Capital Police are involved and ten members of Congress are under security protection. These trouble makers need to settle down, calm down, and take a deep breath. It's ironic to me that someone who cares so much about health care would want to make so many people in need of it.
"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness." James 3:17,18

Using violence to get your way is always wrong. Making threats, hurting people and vandalizing property is not the way to make your side of an argument heard.
I fear there are deeper reasons for these threats.
I have stopped watching the news, so did not know about any of this. I agree with you and SquirrelQueen, violence is NOT the answer. Our world has become so tolerant of violence it is becoming a way of life. all the movies are based on revenge and retaliation. Scary World we live in.
there are parts of the health reform i like and parts i dont and i think it is a horrible thing that there is 2600 pages of something they voted on and no one has read it all. they don't even know what is in it. I am very much against the govt telling us we HAVE to buy insurance.
I just heard that the a Republican office got shot up in Virginia. The great danger we're in is that the nuts will dominate the news and that legitimate debate will be lost.
This is NOT a partisan issue... It's not about who won and who didn't.. It's not about Republicans OR Democrats. It's about NUTS who are out there in the country ---who are making threats to Congress people on both sides.
We in this country have always had NUTS in it ---and people do get upset over the way things are done (or not done). That doesn't make it okay. I do not condone violence in any way.
I'm VERY upset myself about how all of this has been handled. I have always 'trusted' our elected leaders ---but this year, the way things have been done (corruptness, lies, dishonesty) have totally broken my heart. George can tell you that I have spent hours and hours in TEARS due to the way things have happened. I am totally disillusioned.
I know we need healthcare reform--but not this way and not this bill. Our taxes will go sky-high; this will bankrupt the country; there will be more and more government involvement in our lives--telling us what we can and cannot do; and George and I have lost our wonderful Medicare Advantage plan. This bill will cost us an arm and a leg!!
Okay---I'll quit. IF you are interested in hearing more of my thoughts, I'll email you. BUT--you may not. I'm not a violent person at all, but this past year has been the worst year I can ever remember in our Government. And--I've voted both Republican and Democrat all through the years... We desperately need term limits and we need to get rid of all of the dishonesty and corruption going on in Congress and the White House. It's VERY VERY sad.
Sorry I have ranted, but this is an issue very dear to my heart.
Hugs,
Betsy
As you know, I've shared how I feel about this law on my blogs already. I'm dismayed at the juvenile name-calling, threats, and fear-mongering taking place in our nation's legislature and on the airwaves. How can we teach children to be civil and respectful when elected officials behave in such immature and inconsiderate ways?
Hugs and blessings,
