A Day At The Beach

Were you wondering why I was not on the computer today? Well, here is the reason. I went to the Emily Couric Cancer Center with my friend again, and these are the images of my day. The building is all robotic controlled, and they will ask you to wait in dark rooms, telling you that a light will come on when you enter. If you stay extremely still, the lights will go off. The revolving door only goes around when you move. The sink and paper towel holder only work when you move your hands. Each floor is designed like an element of the earth, and our floor was beaches and water. Life has not been a beach for my friend. The first thing I saw in the office was this amazing desk. It is made entirely from smooth stones. And not just as a facade, but all the way through! I can't imagine how much work this would take, each stone must fit against the other, with no mortar. There is a jigsaw puzzle for the patients to work, and the scene is a sunrise. An appropriate image for not giving up!!

"...God himself is right alongside to keep you steady and on track until things are all wrapped up by Jesus. God, who got you started in this spiritual adventure, shares with us the life of his Son and Our Master Jesus. He will never give up on you. Never forget that."
1 Corinthians 1

I will be praying for your friend Ginny. That desk is just fabulous. I know a lady who had that same type smooth rock on her island in the kitchen. It's gorgeous as well.

I really like that desk, I can't imagine how much work that took. I remember you showing us the place before Ginny and I am still amazed at how upbeat and modern it is. The painting in your header is gorgeous.

I hope they can help your friend. I will keep her in my thoughts.

I am thinking of the weight of that desk and if it has to be moved....can you say "hernia"?

Now, if one is on the toilet and is sitting very still.... do the lights go off???? Clap hand and they come back on????

Clap On...Clap Off....
Can you tell its early here...no coffee yet.

You are a super friend to be with her in her time of need. Much prayers for her in her fighting this cancer.

UVA Hospital has come a long way since the 1990s when they still had some of those ancient wooden wheelchairs just off the main lobby. Of course, there are probably a number of "main" lobbies now. You are a good friend and, I'm sure, a great uplifter of your friend's spirits.

Best,
Bonnie

What a post! Thanks for being so compassionate as to spend many hours with your friend in her suffering. It's so creative - the way the hospital put all of those things together to teach us to keep moving and doing so the lights don't go off. At least I'm impressed with that thought. Made me want to get back to the cabin and start a little project (maybe a big one) with creek stones.

The desk is beautiful! And how much thought has gone into all that creation. May God give your friend the strength to go through this difficult phase.

Hi Ginny, It is a nice touch for medical offices, hospitals and other treatment centers to have pleasant surroundings. Not just expensive decor but design that is both pleasing and comfortable. Love your pictures! Have an excellent day today!

The rocks are fantastic! I know that this is not the beach-iest place to be for your friend but this building seems to be designed to soothe the spirit as much as possible.

I'm sorry your friend has need of such a place as this. It is a beautiful place, tho, for those that need it. I wish her the best and will say a prayer for her. She has a wonderful friend in you.

Desk blew me away, and the verse is so encouraging. This comes with a prayer for your frien and for you along with thankfulness that she has you as a friend during this hard time.

The electronics and robotics are impressive, the but the decor is fantastic. If anything can contribute to a patient regaining health it would be this environment. I hope your friend is getting better.

Wow,that building must be like an adventure.Too bad that the people who have to go there are perhaps not in the mood for adventure. Blessings to you.

Hello Ginny,
The stones piled up remind me of us Christians, we support one other.
Ginny,In answer to what you wrote on my Blog: No I had the Left Bundle branch block brfotr I entered hospital. What the doctor wanted to make sure of was that none of my heart vessels were otherwise BLOCKED as this could cause added problems. They were not. In fact he couldn't believe how healthy they all were.
I do not need an ablation, or any other proceedure. I am thrilled.
He just told me that in time I may need a Pacemaker if my heart slows drastically down. Until then, I am fine. "But I believe, I am healed."

You are a good friend for Emily. Just like my ex colleague, he died in his 50s. Makes me feel vulnerable.

Ginny,

you have been my best blogger supporter for my story.

I knew I won't win when I joined up so late, and they were expecting 50,000 entries. Coming 4th in my catergory is very satisfying.

I did not activelly rally for votes, I spread my message.

Nice that they pay attention to details in the environment for these patients.

That desk knocks me out. In fact, the entire building is a home run of design and gentle living.
