The Reds

The Japanese Maples are at the height of their colors now. Such large, brilliant spots in the late summer.

The stripped and shapely maple grieves

The ghosts of her departed leaves

The ground is hard, as hard as stone

The year is old, the birds are flown.

Oh my, that's beautiful. I was just talking to a blog friend who lives in Michigan, and on this particular tree the color was starting to change already. This Japanese Maple looks like Autumn. Isn't that something that they are in peak color in the late Summer? It really is pretty. I like the quote you shared today too, Ginny.

I had a Japanese maple tree like the one on your cover picture at my old house. I loved that it was red on the outside and green on the inside. The new owners of the house cut it way back so it doesn't look so lush anymore!
