YES! It's finally Daylight Savings Time! Did you remember to set your clocks forward? And speaking of clocks, here are some very cool ones that I have snapped recently. The first one is the kind that comes apart each hour then comes back together. The second picture is a clock of mine that I used a kaleidoscope effect on. And the last two are really a clock end table! On my next post I will turn the clock back a few days and show you my birthday celebration!

Two predictors of spring just happened to me. Today I saw the first robin of the year! And for once, I was near my camera!! He was looking for worms, and speaking of worms... I was able to snap the March full moon, called the Full Worm Moon. This is because the ground is starting to thaw for the worms to come up. And right on time, our robin showed up. I wonder if he found any real worms, or only a big round worm moon.

A Gaze Into The Future

Gazing Balls have been around since the 13th century, when they were made in Venice by skilled craftsmen. People thought they brought good luck and prosperity to a home, and they were thought to ward off evil spirits and witches. Many kings had them in their gardens, as well. Parents put them in the foyer so they could spy on their daughter's goodnight to their dates, and in the south they were placed at the gate in the front yard so the homeowner could see who was coming. This gave them time to either prepare refreshments or go and hide! Young women loved to gaze longingly into them, hoping to see their future, especially who their husband would be. The bible tells us it is not for us to know the future, and I certainly don't want to. It is enough to handle the present without the burden of  knowing the future, so I feel it is a real blessing not to know. Here is all of the future that I need to know.

“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we've been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you'll have it all—life healed and whole.”

The Eyes Have It

I took all these pictures with my iPad, and if you look closely, you will see they all have eyes in them. This is because there is quite a bit of late breaking eye news. A recent discovery has been made about all that dark eye makeup that was worn in ancient Egypt in the time of the Pharaohs. The makeup contained lead based substances that helped their immune systems fight bacterial infections. It was believed that the people who wore this eye makeup were protected by the gods from certain illnesses, and turns out they were partially right!

Skipping ahead a bit to Medieval Italy, ladies in the courts would put drops of Deadly Nightshade Belladonna in their eyes to dilate their pupils. It was very fashionable, and  made the eyes bright. In fact, this is the source of the name Belladonna, meaning Beautiful Woman.

Moving right ahead to modern day England, a school recently took the mirrors out of the girls bathroom and forbid them to use makeup. The school got backing from parents and a majority of the students. As a result, the girls grades went way up. Certain girls had been spending so much time in the bathroom applying eye makeup that they were taking their lunches in there to eat and primp. I don't think that what you put on your eyes is quite as important as what you watch and how you see things.

The Blues

If Jesus Had A Yard Sale

If Jesus had a yard sale, what would you buy? Well, the great thing is that he is giving away what he has. And that's a good thing, because no amount of money in the world could buy it. It is eternal life. We don't have to pay a thing, and we don't even have to be good enough to deserve it. He did all that for us, then bled and died to seal the deal. He gave us his life, our freedom, and pure grace. Now who would ever refuse such a great deal?

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.”

The Birds

 

In today's post, we are still in the museum at the exhibit of artwork done by local grade school kids. Many of the kids did paintings featuring birds. Some were delightful, some disturbing. One feels that you could almost tell the personality of the child by looking at their painting. In the last two pictures, for instance. One shows a girl seeming surrounded by vultures, yet she seems at peace. But in the next painting, a faceless and shirtless man is being attacked by small, vicious red birds. He is obviously not at peace. I would love to talk to the two young artists and find out the thoughts behind the paintings. These birds can represent many things.

" Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to Him than birds.”
