Thistles And Lace

Today you get the thistles and tomorrow you get the lace! These are common thistles called milk thistles. They originated in the Mediterranean, and are almost everywhere now. They are a real pain to gardeners and a lot of people hate them, yet I find them beautiful in their own way. They are an ancient plant, and have been known for their medicinal value for over 2,000 years. Thistle extract is known to help liver toxicity, and it can help almost any kind of damage to the liver. In Europe, it is a prescription medicine. Here, we can get it in drug and health food stores. It has so many benefits. So when God said the land would produce thorns and thistles, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing!

"To Adam he said "Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat from it,'
"Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.
It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
And you will eat the plants of the field."
Genesis 3:17,18

You captured their beauty marvelously.

Delighted to meet you today. I hope you don't mind if I splash around a bit to get to know you. This looks like a refreshing place to dip my toes into some serious goodness.

Beautiful color! They are definitely a flower to handle with care. I didn't know about their medicinal qualities.

They are pretty but I'm not thrilled with them in my yard. They are horrid to step on and I love bare feet on grass.

Thistle flowers are so pretty, great shots Ginny. I love to see them along the road or by the ponds and lakes but I don't want them in my yard.

I take Milk Thistle every day for my Hep C and hope and pray it will prolong the damage.

I think the plant is beautiful too, but I've not seen it grow around here.

Hope you are doing well, Ginny. Happy Friday and a great weekend ;-)

The flower is so lovely and if it were not for them getting out of control I would love to plant a few but the thorns are scary too.

Hope your day is blessed.

My husband sure does hate those thistles when he's trying to keep them out of our hay field!

I have to agree with you Ginny; thistles are great beauties. And, like all great beauties, they have to be handled with respect and care so they can be fully enjoyed.

Good one, Ginny. Love seeing the thistle flowers - but don't like getting stuck by the thorny edges.

Ginny, I love thistles, which is not surprising as I love any wildflower and so many are "weeds" per se. I love what Marydon says, "sometimes I think God loves weeds most", I have always loved the "underdog" in life, the wildflowers, the "wannabe's" most. Probably cause all my life I have felt like a "misfit". Since I know without a doubt how much HE loves me, I really like Marydon's thought. Love the color of these thistles. BTW when is your kite festival in Oct this year? Blessings,
Lynn
