Mystery Insect

These bugs were just swarming over these weeds. They have two yellow spots on their back and think stubby antennae. Their wings were coal black. Ick. Does anyone know what they are? This is the only time I have ever seen this kind of flying bug.

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

I have no idea what they are but it looks like Anni has your answer. I've never seen one of those either.

Looks like you got the answer. There are wasps around here but I don't think I've seen this kind. Although they look scary, the yellow spots are pretty :-)

I would not say yuck...looks like they are good a pollination! But I wouldn't want to touch one either.

These insects are new to me. They are busy pollinating the flowers. Have a beautiful day.

We have something here that look almost identical to this but doesn't have the blue wings and it's called us to cata killer and once one was sitting on Bob sandwich and he was looking at me and talking and turned his head and bit the same width and its tongue is tongue it had the same look as the bottom of this one but not the blue wing

You got great pictures of what appears to be a wasp. I try to stay clear of all of them.

I could tell it was a wasp, but not what kind. Stay away, I bet they sting. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

I don’t think I've ever seen them, but then, some insects I get just a quick look at before they are gone.

I knew Anni would know! Isn't it wonderful we have our own resident expert on such things? She's a real treasure! And we have these too, Ginny. I figured they were some kind of bee or wasp and could sting.... so I always give them a wide berth if I see them. *lol* Love, Andrea xoxo

Some kind of wasp - Anni knew the name.
Hey that was a good quote - why did they not kill out the mosquitoes?

Yikes! It could be a wasp or possibly a hornet. Maybe a bee killer? Regardless, it is one to stay away from!!

I'm not a fan of 'unidentified flying insects' either but those photos were really beautiful!

Extraordinary insect and great photos of it Ginny. I found one in Williamsburg last year and identified it from this page. I think it is the same one.

Sunday Sunset

I snapped these from the Target parking lot. The sun had just gone down, but the trees were hiding the very bottom part of the sunset. Life...
