Blackout

There are plenty of black gourds around now. I have not seen any actual black pumpkins. Can black gourds be eaten? I know that some gourds can be eaten, and some can't. But I would be scared to eat one, how about you? Just the color is so off-putting.

Oh Ginny, I have never seen black gourds until now. As you said, the color is rather unappetizing but I wouldn't mind tasting one piece just out of curiosity!

I have never come across black gourds before. Some are really weird looking gourds. Maybe it is just the skin that is black, probably the flesh is not.

That's why bikers wear it, I'm guessing. I've never ever seen a black gourd though. They're actually pretty in their own way, aren't they. Thank you for showing me something new, Ginny.

How very interesting...and new to me. (I tend to wear a lot of black...and it doesn't make ME sexy!! (Now, all I can think of is my youth when the nuns were wearing black....hmmmm)

Since I've never seen these and none of the other commenters are ever seen these blackguards I'm wondering if somebody didn't doctor them up either die them or someone decided to grow and make them black. I haven't seen gourds even in the stores here and a lot of these here I've never seen. I used to see them in Kentucky but have never seen them here. Who knew there were sexy gourds

I had no idea there were black gourds or pumpkins. I think if I saw one I would think that it had gone bad.

I didn't know about the black ones but the photos are all gorgeous, especially the one you used for your header. So festive!

They certainly offer drama to your pictures.
A lot of gourds are just ornamental..I love the varieties.

I have no idea what kinds of gourd are edible and what kinds are not. But they do look interesting and would make great decoration for sure :-)

I've never seen black gourds or pumpkins, and also never knew that gourds were edible. I thought they were just for decoration. You've gotten some beautiful, colorful shots though.

Black is by far my favorite color so I love the black ones, but all of those gourds are gorgeous! Their shapes and patterns are fascinating. xoxo
