The Golden Bells

The forsythias were the first bushes to bloom here this spring, and there are a lot of them in our neighborhood. I took so many pictures of these beautiful bushes, but finally narrowed them down to the dozen you see here. To me, they look like rays of earthly sunshine shouting up into the sky. There are about ten different species of forsythia, and they are used as medicine to treat lung and throat diseases, sometimes even being given intravenously! Forsythias are also called Golden Bells, and sometimes when the breeze is just right, I can almost hear them ringing!

“Oh, visit the earth, ask her to join the dance! Deck her out in spring showers, fill the God-River with living water. Paint the wheat fields golden. Creation was made for this! Drench the plowed fields, soak the dirt clods with rainfall as harrow and rake bring her to blossom and fruit.”
Psalm 65

Wow, I just did my post and was going to bed when your post popped up! So happy to see you! Have been praying and concerned about you. I have had a busy week, very busy with all 5 of the grands so I did not see the post before this one. Yes, the Forsythia is such a beautiful, sunny yellow, happy tree or shrub. Cannot help but smile when we see this can we? Again, so happy to see you. Hope you are much better now.

Your neighborhood must be a golden paradise right now Ginny, those are all beautiful. So far I have only seen a few little ones beginning to bloom around town. I'm thinking about planting one in my yard. I just wish they bloomed longer.

I didn't know that about the medicinal quality of the bush...is it the flowers or the bark that they use you wonder?!! Beautiful images...I especially like the one that has the three dogs laying under/beside it.

I have forsythia along the side of my house and it's in full bloom right now. I love it when it gives me that splash of sunshine in spring.
I had no idea that it was used for medicine

I have some forsythia here that I planted when we first moved in. It's never gotten all that big, but I enjoy it.

Glad to "see" you this morning. I picture Phil careening about the winding valley roads while you shoot photos of the beautiful forsythia!! Good times. I didn't know they were used for medicines. I do know that lots of plants are. I'll have to ask The Baker if he knows the medicinal uses of forsythia.

Best,
Bonnie

I love the forsythia. I remember taking lots of photos of it last year when I was there. Hoping spring will still be there when I come. I'll be there Thursday.

I don't think anything says 'Spring' as much as forsythia does. There beautiful. We got a forsythia bush last Spring. It's still small, but it did have some beautiful golden blossoms.

Hi Ginny,
Beautiful pictures, the yellow makes me smile. And cannot help but noticing the beautiful dogs in the background...love the Husky one. Reminds me of a dog we had when I was younger.

The Lord is so good to give us such vibrant yellow rays of sunshine. After a long dark winter, these bushes make my heart sing! Thanks for these pictures. Now that I'm stuck in a motel and not able to get out without help, I feel I'm missing spring! Your pictures have brightened my day! Happy Monday Sweet friend!
