The Cutting Edge

I just read an article in the paper today talking about the new six blade disposable razor. That's right, SIX blades. So I went to the drugstore to check it out, and here you have it. Go ahead and count the blades. In 1998, Gillette introduced three blades with the Mach III. But really, isn't six blades getting a bit over the top? I think one reason they keep adding blades is because the refill blades can cost lots more. Much more than the razor itself. Comedian Will Farrell made a joke about adding all these blades when he did a phony ad for the immaginary Mach 20 "The eighth blade sends an electronic pulse which destroys the part of the brain responsible for hair growth!" Gillette claims that it's scientifically proven that multiple blades shave closer than just one. They say this is very serious technology with deep science behind it. There must be just the right spacing between the blades. Personally, I think the point is to leave plenty of space in your wallet! Do six blades really shave closer than three? There's got to be a cutoff point somewhere, doesn't there? Will they soon be fitting 100 mini blades into a giant head? One can only wait. Delilah did not cut off Samson's hair, as the popular story goes, she had someone shave it off. We don't know what implement was used, perhaps sharpened flint or something. But a single edge seemed to work just fine.

"Having put him to sleep on her lap, she called a man to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him." Judges 16:19

Maybe she didn't shave it at all... perhaps she just chopped it short with a knife.. or her helper did. It is getting a bit ridiculous. I just wish they could get rid of certain hairs forever... the bane of growing older!!! ;)

ok so you have proved once again we are sisters separated at birth. no one else i know besides me would and could do a post on a package of razors. welcome sister erma. my new noxema shavers have 4 blades and here is the thing. this is the only one i can use that does not cut my skin. old skin old legs and a single blade leaves me bleeding in several places. i can't use a bic at all. 2 months ago i tried this 4 blade and have not had asingle cut. now i am wondering if i need SIX

Samson and Delilah. Sometimes that story makes me chuckle. And I'm with srp. Chin hairs drive me to distraction. It is not fair. Not at all.

This is the first I've heard of a six-blade razor. I do think perhaps this is going to extremes!

We're in a society where we believe that if a little works, then alot is better....

I still use Trac II blades in my razor (when I use them at all these days--ha)... Trac II is another Gillette one --but it's been around for years... I keep waiting for them to discontinue the blades, but so far, I can still get them...

Hugs,
Betsy

I had to go to my bathroom cabinet and check what I had, I had no idea. Isn't it like this with everything, they keep making changes to products whether it really makes a difference or not, just to be able to keep up the competition. I hate it when they change things that worked just fine for me and I suddenly can't find that product any more but have to stand there choosing from 87 or so other things that might or might not be similar!

If calculated I wonder what the cost per individual blade would be? The more blades and the fancier the handle the more expensive it seems to get. I buy whatever is on sale and they seem to work just fine.

The St. John's Wort is growing at one of our local parks, I have also seen some downtown in a planter. I think it can be grown from seeds or cuttings. I wonder how much trouble I would get into if I took a cutting from the park??

you are right... putting more blades means adding more cost. it's a rip off and i guess as long as the razor is new even if it only has single blade it will shave fine.
