The Banquet

Last Saturday after the spelling bee was over, we drove about 45 minutes to a city in the opposite direction. We went with a couple friends to a banquet being given in honor of Phil's uncle Michael, who is retiring after 58 years as a pastor and bishop. These pictures show our evening. There is me and Phil, then Phil with his uncle and aunt. There were many speeches and memories, a big projection screen, good entertainment and a presentation of $10,000 that the area churches gave him in appreciation of his long service. The black and white picture is uncle Michael as a young man, when Mennonite men wore what used to be called plain suits. Yes, even Phil did! The quilt hanging on the wall was made for him by the church ladies, and everyone signed a square. As we left the building, I looked up at the beautiful half moon. It would be 11:00 before we got home on this day of the bee and the banquet, but it was a good day.

"The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." Luke 24:47

Goodness Ginny, you and Phil had a very long day. But it looks like it was worth every minute. The quilt is charming, that was a lot of work but I'm sure it will be treasured.

What a wonderful celebration of service for his uncle. I love the moon shot. I have so much to learn about photography. I tried not long ago to take a gorgeous full moon shot...with some really cool clouds passing by...but it was so bright it didn't come out. Hope you're feeling better.

What a lovely banquet and such a thrilling time for your husband's uncle. It is so rare that ministers are able to see the results of their work for the Lord... but, he will hear those words we all want to hear... "Well, done thou good and faithful servant"....Mt 25:21.
